As part of its four-day program in Elwak Subcounty, Mandera, the Ali Roba Foundation, under the stewardship of H.E. Capt. Ali Ibrahim Roba, implemented transformative initiatives targeting the youth. These efforts are designed to foster economic empowerment and provide sustainable income opportunities for the community’s young people.
Youth Empowerment through Bodaboda Program
To support youth employment, the Foundation purchased 33 motorbikes and constructed a bodaboda shade to serve as a central hub for operations. The 125 youth beneficiaries had been previously organized into five groups, each with leadership structures comprising a chairman, treasurer, and secretary.
In a grand ceremony graced by H.E. Capt. Ali Roba, the 33 motorbikes were officially flagged off, symbolizing the start of an initiative that is expected to transform the lives of these young entrepreneurs.
Formation of SACCOs and Financial Empowerment
To ensure long-term sustainability, the Foundation facilitated the formation of five SACCOs (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations), with each group comprising members from the bodaboda initiative. These SACCOs will serve as platforms for pooling resources, accessing credit, and enhancing financial management.
The Foundation also announced plans to open five separate bank accounts for the SACCOs in the coming days. Once operational, the Foundation will inject seed capital into each account to provide the groups with a strong financial foundation for their business ventures.
Benefits to the Community
This initiative is expected to:
- Provide immediate employment opportunities for the youth.
- Encourage savings and financial literacy through SACCO membership.
- Promote economic growth by improving mobility and transportation services in Elwak.
- Foster unity and collaboration among the youth through group activities.

Looking Ahead
The Ali Roba Foundation remains committed to empowering communities by investing in projects that inspire hope, create opportunities, and drive sustainable development. The launch of the bodaboda initiative and SACCOs is a testament to this vision, ensuring that the youth of Elwak Subcounty have the tools and resources needed to build a brighter future.
